Telangana Congress MPs continued their protests for the second day today during the ongoing winter session of Parliament. While the TDP members separately staged a dharna on the FDI issue, Congress MPs staged dharna on the Telangana issue.
The TDP MPs also demanded that the “Nilam” cyclone victims be rendered immediate assistance. Speaking to the media, TDP MP Nama Nageswara Rao has alleged that the government had totally failed in helping the victims. He said though there were 11 ministers from the State in the Union Cabinet, they did not care to help the cyclone-hit farmers. Stating that farmers would in no way be benefited because of the FDIs, he asked the Union government to explain the benefits if there were any. He charged the Union government with bringing the FDIs in retail trade only to deprive the small traders of their livelihood.
On the other hand, the Congress MPs held placards and raised pro-Telangana slogans. They said they were committed to the Telangana cause. They said that if their party decides against Telangana State, then they would decide about their future course of action.
Gutta Sukhinder Reddy said they would not hesitate even to launch a Telangana Front. The MPs have alleged that Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy was showing discrimination towards Telangana. They said he was releasing water to the areas other than the Nagarjuna Sagar ayacut. They have described this as water plunder.
The Telangana Congress MPs said as the Chief Minister had not responded even though they had written four letters, they said they had finally written a letter to the Congress president Sonia Gandhi. Gutta has demanded that a separate water regulatory authority be constituted for distribution of water. (NSS)
