New Delhi: The Congress MPs from the Telangana region have said that they would be left with no option other than resigning, if Telangana was not conceded. They said they would wait till May 15, for the elections in five States and after that the situation would not be in their hands.
The Congress MPs from the region have met Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad, in-charge of State affairs in the AICC, here on Friday.
Talking to the media after the meeting, they said they had submitted a three-page report to Mr Azad. They said that they asked Mr Azad to make a clear announcement on the Telangana issue.
The MPs said that they assured the party that they would abide by the advice of the Union Finance Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, and wait till May 15. They said they had however informed Mr Azad that if the Congress party did not take a decision by June first week, situation would not be in their hands.
Mr Basavaraju Saraiah has said that the Congress president, Ms Sonia Gandhi, had announced Telangana as her birthday gift and said they were all confident that the Telangana State would be a reality. He also said that Mr Azad knew the sentiments of the Telangana people and expressed confidence that he would do justice to the people.
Mr Sarve Satyanarayana has said that Ms Sonia Gandhi had announced party stand on Telangana as her birthday gift. “We do not think that she would take it back. We all have confidence on her”, he added. Mr Ponnam Prabhakar said that there was no danger of Naxalism aggravating if Telangana State was conceded. The Congress leadership should make a clear announcement on its stand on Telangana. The Nizamabad MP, Mr Madhu Yashki Goud said, “We made it clear to Mr Azad that all the Telangana MPs would resign and participate in the Telangana agitation if separate was not conceded”. (NSS)
