New Delhi: Hours after the unsavoury incident, Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLA Harish Rao on Thursday expressed regrets for his assault on Chander Rao, Officier on Special Duty at Andhra Pradesh Bhavan in New Delhi, even as his party colleagues continued to blame the officials.
Addressing media persons here, Mr Harish Rao defended himself by saying that he had resorted to the attack since he was incensed at the AP Bhavan Resident Commissioner for directing the OSD to send the body of Yadireddy, who committed suicide for the cause of Telangana, like an orphan to Hyderabad.
Terming the incident as `unfortunate’, the TRS MLA took pains to emphasise that he was against violence in all forms and has condemned it earlier.
“I was emotionally disturbed and attacked the OSD,” Harish Rao said.
He added that the officials refused to give permission to pay homage to Telangana Martyr and sent the body without intimating the TRS activists.
“Despite Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and Rajya Sabha member K Kesava Rao giving clear directions to AP Bhavan officials, they neglected to honour Yadireddy and insulted the Telangana Martyr, who laid down his life for the cause of statehood,” the TRS MLA said.
The TRS MLA also appealed to the media not to blow the ugly incident out of proportion and put an end to the chapter.
TRS Floor Leader in the state Assembly Etela Rajender and Siricilla MLA K Taraka Rama Rao condemned the irresponsible attitude of AP Bhavan officials in shifting Yadireddy’s body to Hyderabad without giving any notice to the TRS.(INN)
