The fragile coalition of the Congress, TRS, Telugu Desam and the BJP over the Telangana issue is cracking.
The TD is peeved at the Congress and TRS leaders’ behaviour at the 48-hour deeksha. The senior TD politburo member, Mr Kadiam Srihari, criticised the chiefs of both the parties for playing a drama over the Telangana issue. Mr Chandrasekhar Rao is strengthening the Congress, he alleged.
Mr Srihari, who hails from Telangana, criticised Mr Chandrasekhar Rao for wearing a Congress “khandwa” and expressing solidarity with Congress leaders’ 48-hour deeksha (fast) at the Indira Park.
The TD politburo member said Mr Chandrasekhar Rao had stumped Congress leaders by saying he had information that the Centre would make a positive announcement on Telangana in two weeks.
He also wondered why the Congress MPs, Mr Rajaiah, Mr Ponnam Prabhakar and others danced on the staged.
“Mr Rao said Centre will take a positive decision on Telangana in two weeks. Did the Congress MPs dance on the stage for this? Or were they happy that Mr Rao was joining the Congress? Did the Centre announce a decision on Telangana or Mrs Gandhi promise Telangana,” he asked.
“It looks like a political drama,” Mr Srihari said after the TD politburo meeting presided over by Mr Chandrababu Naidu.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, and the Congress president, Mrs Sonia Gandhi, grappled with the separate statehood issue on Friday evening.
A meeting of the Congress Core Group, headed by Mrs Gandhi was also attended by AICC general secretary, Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is in-charge of party affairs in AP. Deccan Chronicle
