Hyderabad: The Telugu Desam Party has demanded cancellation of all mining deals in the tribal areas of the State.
In a pressnote here on Wednesday, the party politburo member, Mr Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, stated that it has become a regular practice for the Congress government to dole away natural resources to middlemen under benami transactions. He also stated that the sanctions given by the government for exploitation of China Clay in Sarai under Dumbriguda mandal of Visakhapatnam district was part of this illegal practice. It was deplorable that the government went ahead with sanctioning permissions for the exploitation of China Clay, ignoring the protests of the tribals, he stated, adding that the TDP was supporting the agitation of the tribals.
Mr Ramakrishnudu has stated that the Congress leaders had earlier given permissions to their henchmen in Vantada tribal lands allowing them to make thousands of crores of rupees through illegally mining and selling minerals. The government has ignored the report of the East Godavari district Collector that signatures of tribals were obtained by dubious means and construction of roads was taken up without permissions in tribal lands. He stated that the GO sanctioning mining rights in 1.3 lakh acres to Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy’s son-in-law, Br. Anil Kumar’s “Rakshana Steels” was also not cancelled so far.
Mr Ramakrishnudu stated that it was strange that the local minister had said that only the officials were responsible for these irregularities. He demanded a clear statement from the Tribal Welfare Minister, Mr P. Balaraju, on the mining activity in the tribal areas. He also demanded that mining rights should be granted only to tribal cooperative societies. Demanding in investigation into illegal mining, Mr Ramakrishnudu stated the money illegally earned by the beneficiaries should be recovered from them. (NSS)
