TDP MLAs want to quit after Congress

The Telangana Telugu Desam forum MLAs who jumped to resign from their Assembly seats following the Congress, TRS, BJP, CPI members decision to quit last time have developed cold feet this time.

The Telangana TD Forum convener, Mr E. Dayakar Rao, told this newspaper that the forum MLAs would be ready with resignation letters when the Speaker, Mr Nadendla Manohar, arrives in city on August 6.

However, he put a rider on the resignation saying the Congress MLAs too should come along with them.

“We are not going back on the promise to resign. However, there will not be a constitutional crisis if only we resign. The MLAs, MLCs and MPs from all parties should quit again to have the desired impact,” he said.

Asked whether the TD would back out if the Congress refused to toe their line, he parried the question saying they would bring pressure on the Congress MLAs to resign.Sources said the TD president, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, had cautioned the T-TD leaders not to take any hasty step on resignation and wait till the Congress decision.According to a senior TD leader, the T-TD MLAs will resign only if Congress MLAs also follow suit.

“We will not resign unless the Congress does it. However, some TD MLAs are firm in quitting in view of the volatile situation in the respective Assembly constituencies. In such a scenario, other MLAs may be forced to resign,” the TD leader said.

The TD leader was sceptical about the Congress MLAs’ resignations again in the wake of party high command engaging them in discussions till next month.

“I am doubtful if the Congress MLAs will quit again now. They may wait till next month to complete the discussions, unless things hot up forcing them to quit,” he added.

However, four rebel Telugu Desam MLAs Dr Nagam Janardhan Reddy, Mr Harishwar Reddy, Mr S. Venugopala Chari and Mr Jogu Ramesh are planning to meet the Speaker immediately after his arrival to accept their resignation. Deccan Chronicle
