Hyderabad: Senior Telugu Desam Party leaders Devender Goud, Mahender Reddy and Prakash Goud were arrested by the police when they attempted to barge inside the Ranga Reddy district Collectorate at Lakdi-ka-Pul on Monday, even as party activists used firewood to cook on the road as part of the protest against the recent steep hike in prices of petroleum products.
The protests, as announced by TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu recently, saw the party activists across the state picketing the district Collectorates, demanding a roll back of the hike in prices of kerosene, liquefied petroleum gas and diesel.
Raising anti-government slogans against the state and Central governments, the TDP leaders observed a dharna and staged A Rasta Roko on the road.
The protestors were prevented by the police in their attempts to meet the Ranga Reddy district Collector. Following this, the party’s senior leaders tried to barge inside the Collectorate.
The protestors said that a rollback in prices of petroleum products must be declared immediately as the hike is breaking the spine of the poor and middle classes, who were already hit due to increase in prices of all essential commodities.
A bystander, witnessing the events, expressed concern that the three senior TDP leaders would be unable to enjoy the lunch prepared by the party activists using the age-old method of cooking with firewood as they were taken to the police station. (INN)
