Hyderabad: The police on Wednesday foiled an attempt by Telugu Desam Party Telangana Forum members to picket the Raj Bhavan, demanding the introduction of the Telangana Bill in Parliament and withdrawal of Central Paramilitary forces from the Telangana region.
The Forum members, under the leadership of its convener Errabelli Dayakar Rao, attempted to picket the Raj Bhavan even as Governor E S l Narasimhan left for Tirupati along with Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.
Meanwhile, the police swung into action and arrested the Forum members. They were shifted to the nearby police station.
Later, Mr Dayakar Rao condemned the police for resorting to the arrests, describing the action as ‘undemocratic’, especially since they were staging the dharna peacefully.
The TDP leader vowed to continue the agitation for separate statehood in different forms till the Centre announces a decision on Telangana.
“The Telangana agitation will be continued despite the government resorting to repressive measures and using paramilitary forces to water down the demand,” he made it clear.(INN)
