Hyderabad: The main Opposition Telugu Desam party has urged the State government to declare April 27 as a public holiday in the entire State so that devotees of Bhagwan Satya Sai Baba, who could not go to Puttaparti personally to have a last darshan could at least watch the last rites on the TV channels.

In a letter to the Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, the party senior leader, Mr Dadi Veerabhadra Rao, has said that while the government has declared State mourning for four days, it has declared holiday to government offices only in Anantapur district on April 27. He said that it has been the tradition to declare public holiday for the entire State when leaders of national level passed away.

Stating that Bhagwan Satya Sai Baba has devotees in all the corners of the world, Mr Dadi said that it would be proper for the government to declare a holiday in the entire State on April 27 as a homage to him and to facilitate viewing of his last rites by the devotees in the State on the TV channels.
