Hyderabad, Feb.11 (NSS): Demanding an assurance from the Centre that the Telangana Bill would be introduced in parliament in the ensuing Budget session itself, the Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad has called for a bandh in the Telangana region on February 21, if there was no assurance from the Centre. It has also called upon all sections of the region to make it a success.
Speaking to the media here on Friday, the Telangana region secretary, Mr Moola Ramu said that it appears that a conspiracy was being hatched to cheat the Telangana people as usual, since there was no announcement from the Centre as yet in connection with introducing the Telangana Bill, though it always says that it was in favour of it. It also demanded that the Centre should abstain from constituting committees like the Justice Srikrishna Committee that did not have any legality, constitutional safeguards and packages, but introduce a bill in the Parliament to carve out a separate Telangana State.
Reminding that all the previous safeguards meant for Telangana, like the Mulki Rules, the Presidential Order, the Six-point formula and the Gentlemen Agreement have been proved failure, Mr Ramu said that formation of a separate Telangana State was the only solution to the woes of the region and demanded that efforts should be made in this direction by placing a bill in the Parliament. Pointing to the all-party meeting on the Telangana issue, he said that the Centre was playing delay tactics despite more than 600 students sacrificing their lives for the cause.
Mr Ramu said that in the wake of bandh on February 21, the ABVP would organise agitations, meetings and seminars in all the universities and colleges of the region to create awareness about the Telangana issue among the people. He also called upon all sections of the region to keep aside their differences and come together to make the bandh a grand success.
The National Executive Council member, Mr Pandu Ranga Reddy, the Telangana joint secretary, Mr Yashpal Goud, the National Executive Body member, Ms Shailaja, Bhagyanagar area secretary, Mr B P Reddy and the Osmania University campus joint secretary, Mr Kalyan, were also present. (NSS)
