Hyderabad: Enraged over the remarks of the Union Petroleum Minister, Mr S Jaipal Reddy, that the Congress was a national party and opposed to regional and sub-regioinal demands, the Telangana advocates on Sunday staged a dharna in front of the Union minister’s house at Jubilee Hills and raised slogans against him.
As the situation at the MLAs and MPs colony turned tense, the police took the protesting lawyers into custody.
Meanwhile, in all the Telangana districts, separatists took to the streets in protest against the remarks of Mr Jaipal Reddy, who hails from Mahbubnagar district.
In Miryalguda of Nalgonda district, the protagonists of Telangana staged dharnas and rasta rokos demanding that the Union minister resign from his post immediately. The protestors did not relent even as Mr Jaipal Reddy denied to have made such a statement.
VH BEMOANS JAIPAL REMARKS
The senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member, Mr V. Hanumantha Rao, took serious exception to the provocative remarks of Mr Jaipal Reddy. Mr Rao said that the Union minister, who hails from Telangana, should not have made such a statement which cannot be consumed by the people of the region. He also demanded that Mr Jaipal Reddy accompany the Telangana MPs to meet the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, on June 15. He exuded confidence that Mr Jaipal Reddy would stand by his word on separate Telangana issue.
