The indefinite strike of the Telangana employees, officers, teachers and workers in support of a separate state has been postponed. Providing a major relief to residents of the twin cities vexed with the frequent bandhs and agitations for the cause of separate Telangana statehood, Telangana Political Joint Action committee president M Kodandaram on Thursday announced a few changes in the general strike called by employees from August 17, taking into consideration the Holy Month of Ramzan, followed by the Vinayaka Chaturthi in August and September.
Talking to media persons after emerging out of TPJAC meeting at MLA quarters at Adarshnagar, Prof Kodandaram said that the strike would begin on the earlier announced date of August 17 but some changes have been made considering the interest of the people.
As per the changed strategy, the Telangana spearhead said, in the first phase the Telangana employees would not participate in the general strike. However, the Telangana people, associations and political parties would get involved in the agitation.
Prof Kodandaram further said that the general strike would begin with organizing a ‘maha dharna’ at Indira Park on August 17.
In the second phase, employees, labour union leaders and teachers would participate in the general strike on September 6.
Prior to the participation of employees in the agitation second phase of agitation, the TPJAC would organize a massive public meeting in Karimnagar on September 5, Prof Kodandaram said.
In the meeting, the TPJAC would finalise its course of action after discussing with all concerned parties and leaders, the TPJAC chief stated.
He emphasized that employees would participate in the agitation as a last resort and paralyse the administration.
