Hyderabad: For the first time in the history of the state, the cabinet meeting will be held at camp office, the official residence of the Chief Minister, instead of the Secretariat which is the normal practice, on August 16.
The General Administration Department (GAD) has communicated to the ministers that the meeting of Council of Ministers will be held in the Chief Minister’s camp office on August 16 at 5 pm. The Chief Minister, Mr N Kiran Kumar Reddy seem to have taken this decision keeping in view the decision of the Telangana ministers not to step into Secretariat, which houses their offices, until the Telangana issue was resolved. Out of 38 cabinet ministers, 12 belonging to Telangana region were keeping away from their duties even after their resignations were rejected by the Assembly Speaker.
Except for the Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha and Ministers Mukesh Goud and Danam Nagender, who had not submitted their resignations, the other Telangana ministers have not stepped into Secretariat for the past one month. However the chances of these Telangana ministers attending the August 16 cabinet meeting despite it being held outside Secretariat seem to be very bleak. These ministers, who are on an agitation mode, have been boycotting the meetings of the cabinet sub-committee of which they are members.
It is pertinent to note here that only during an emergency occasion the Cabinet meetings were held outside the Secretariat like in the Committee Hall when the Assembly was in session to approve the state budget before it was presented in the House. However this is the first time that the cabinet is scheduled to meet outside Secretariat and that too in the Chief Minister’s Camp Office for other reasons.
Actually the cabinet meeting was scheduled to be conducted on July 16 but was put off due to the resignations of the Telangana ministers. Even the scheduled District Collectors conference had to be cancelled due to the same reason. As a matter of fact six Telangana ministers abstained from the crucial Cabinet meet on June 16 and thus it had to be completed abruptly.
According to the sources, the Chief Minister, Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy was trying to convince the Telangana ministers to attend the cabinet meeting scheduled for August 16 in view of the serious nature of the situation in the state in the wake of the ongoing Telangana agitation and also the proposed Sakala Janula Samme ( general strike) by the employees of the region from August 17 and plan various measures to prevent the common from any hardship.
