Hyderabad: The Telangana Teachers’ Joint Action Committee on Monday served a strike notice on the Chief Secretary stating that they would resort to direct action at any moment after August 1 for the cause of Telangana statehood. A delegation of Teachers JAC called on the Chief Secretary, Mr S V Prasad, in the Secretariat today and served a strike notice.
Speaking to the media later, the Teachers MLA, Mr Mohan Reddy, said that 1.7 lakh teachers in the Telangana region would go on indefinite strike at any moment after August 1. The teachers working in the region were getting salaries from the taxes collected from Telangana people by the government, he said. On par with the elected representatives, the government employees, including teachers, has moral responsibility to strive to realize the dream of the people of Telanagana, he felt. Implementation of GO No. 610 remained merely on paper, he said, adding that Uniform Service Rule and deletion of 14(f) clause of Presidential Order has not seen implementation. Formation of separate Telangana State alone would resolve all the problems being faced by the Telangana employees, he added. He warned the government that the Telangana employees and teachers would plunge into direct action and paralyze the administration in the State in order to mount pressure on the Centre to bifurcate the State.
The Teachers JAC Chairman, Mr Pulla Ravinder, said they would also give strike notices to the Principal Secretaries of Social welfare, Tribal welfare and Education departments. As a part of the agitation, the teachers would attend to their duties by wearing black badges between July 20 and 25. Hunger strikes would be organized at Tahsil offices on July 26 and at the district collectorates on July 28 throughout Telangana. It was also decided to hold one-day hunger strike on August 3 at Indira Park, he added.
