Hyderabad: The Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) on Friday warned the Centre of severe backlash from people of the region if any attempt was made to set up regional boards or councils instead of granting statehood. The TJAC and the TRS chief, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who masterminded the resignations in the Congress, are elated over the Congress MPs, MLAs and MLCs’ decision to quit on July 4. They promised to re-elect them with a thumping majority.

Minutes after the T-Congress leaders’ decision to quit, the Telangana Telugu Desam Forum convener, Mr E. Dayakar Rao also announced that the TD MLAs from the region will meet on July 3 and submit their resignations to the Speaker on July 4. The TJAC steering committee at an emergency meeting on Friday also decided to organise “Vanta Varpu” (Cooking on the roads) protest programme across Telangana region barring Hyderabad on July10. A T-delegation will also call on the President, Ms Pratibha Patil, during her stay in Hyderabad and give a representation with a request to the Centre to abide by its announcement in Parliament on Telangana and carve out a separate state.

“The deadline for resignations was over on June 25. There is no extension. Congress and Telugu Desam MPs and MLAs should resign or face the wrath of Telangana people. Anyone directly or indirectly supporting regional board will face serious consequences,” Prof. Kodandaram, convener, TJAC said. He added, “Ruling Congress elected representatives should either get Telangana or resign their seats. We will ensure they are re-elected unopposed with a thumping majority. This is our promise.” Deccan Chronicle
