The life of a bright young student was tragically cut short because she was rejected by her family.
Sai Keerthi, a second year B.Sc student at the Sreenidhi Degree and PG College, committed suicide at her cousin’s house in Maruthinagar because she was upset that her father did not care for her.
“She was a bright student and she used to top her college. She once said that the college was asking for the term fees and she had spoken to her father about it but he did not respond. I went to the college and spoke to the principal, who praised her and told me not to worry about the fee as she was a college topper,” her cousin, Mr Praveen Kumar, said.
Mr Praveen Kumar said that she always had a tough time with her family. Her mother died 12 years ago and her father, who works as a labourer in Mahbubnagar, never cared for her.
He said Keerthi was upset that her father had not responded to her plea to pay her fee. “But we never thought she would end her life. She was very talented and had a bright future,” Mr Praveen Kumar said.
He said the day before she ended her life “she looked upset”.
“We had our food and the next day I went to work and returned at 7.30 am and found her dead.”
According to Mr Ranga Swami, SI of Amberpet police station, “On Sunday morning, at around 6.30 am, she locked herself in a room. Later her cousins found her body.”
He said it seemed as if Keerthi took this extreme step as she couldn’t pay her college fees.
He said the police would find out from the college whether it was pressing her for the fee. Deccan Chronicle
