New Delhi: The boisterous Telangana Rashtra Samithi MPs, Mr K. Chandrasekhara Rao and Ms Vijayashanti, on Thursday stalled the proceedings in the Lok Sabha in pursuance of their demand that the UPA government introduce a Bill for Telangana in the House and pave the way for formation of separate State. Though they were only two in number, they forced the Speaker, Ms Meira Kumar, to adjourn the House twice on Thursday.
As Mr Rao warned earlier, the two rushed to the podium of the Speaker and demanded discussion on their Adjournment motion on Telangana. Raising “Jai Telangana” slogans loudly, they did not allow the Speaker to take up business. The duo was supported by the NDA members and some of the ruling party members from the Telangana region.
The Speaker had first adjourned the House till noon. And even when the House reassembled after the break, there was no change in the situation and the two continued to disrupt the proceedings by chanting Jai Telangana. The Speaker had adjourned the House again till 1400 hrs
T-MPs vow to stall LS proceedings
Meanwhile, the Telangana Congress MPs have also decided to stall the proceedings of Lok Sabha until the government made a positive announcement on Telangana.
The MPs met in the house of Mr Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy and discussed their strategy for achieving Telangana. They have decided to bring pressure on the government by stalling the proceedings of the Lok Sabga.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, the Nizamabad MP, Mr Madhu Yashki Goud, strongly condemned the remarks of Seemandhra Congress MP, Mr Kavuri Sambasiva Rao. He also threatened that he would expose the corruption activities of Mr Sambasiva Rao. Deploring the remarks of the Union Home Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, on Telangana, he described the former’s remarks as irresponsible. He said that as a protest, they had decided to stall the proceedings of Parliament, he added.
Mr Madhu Yashki said there was no need for Mr Kavuri to make irresponsible remarks against the Telangana leaders simply because the lawyers of the region went to his house to bring pressure on him about Telangana. He said the corrupt practices of Mr Kavuri Sambasiva Rao were known to every one. He demanded that Mr K S Rao immediately apologize to the people’s representatives of Telangana.
Mr Rajagopal Reddy said that they had decided to disrupt the proceedings till the Union Finance Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, gave a positive assurance on Telangana. Stating that they were all prepared to resign, he said that submitting resignations was not a big thing as achieving Telangana State was their goal. He also asserted that none of the 11 MPs from the region would hesitate to resign.
It may be mentioned here that Mr Kavuri Sambasiva Rao had said that the Telangana leaders were sticking to their positions shamelessly. (NSS)
