TRS relay fast for acceptance of Pocharam’s resignation

Hyderabad: TRS legislators launched a relay hunger strike on Friday at the Gandhi Statue in the Assembly premises protesting against the delay in accepting the resignation of Telugu Desam legislator Mr. Pocharam Srinivas Reddy.

It might be mentioned here that Mr. Srinivas Reddy, who was elected from the Banswada Assembly constituency on the Telugu Desam ticket, had quit the party recently and joined the TRS on the issue of separate Telangana. He also submitted his resignation to his membership from the Assembly.

Apart from the TRS legislators, former MLAs and MPs of the party along with Mr. Srinivas Reddy has participated in today relay huger strike and demonstrations. Demanding the Deputy Speaker to forthwith accept the resignation of Mr. Srinivas Reddy the TRS leaders asserted that their protest would continue till the resignation was accepted. They accused the Deputy Speaker of colluding with the Congress and TDP in their match fixing to scuttle the demand for a separate Telangana state.

The TRS Floor Leader in the Assembly Mr. E. Rajendra observed that if the Deputy Speaker has any respect for democratic values should immediately accept the former TDP member’s resignation. Mr. H. Taraka Rama Rao wonder why the Deputy Speaker was delaying in accepting the resignation of the former TDP member when he had quit the party and the Assembly seat in disgust over the failure of TDP to keep up its promise on Telangana. Mr. Harish Rao felt it ridiculous at the attitude of the Deputy Speaker delaying the acceptance of the resignation on the plea of awaiting the consent of the TDP President. When the member himself has submitted his resignation where is question of awaiting the consent of the party present, he asked.

Mr. Srinivas Reddy said that he had no other alternative but to quit TDP and the Assembly to respect the sentiments of the people of Telangana region. He was not interested in contesting if a by-election was held and that his main goal was to achieve Telangana state.(NSS).
