Hyderabad, Feb.7 (NSS):Pointing out that the High Court has given a clear verdict stating that the Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanams (TTD) would remain under the purview of the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) even though the ASI has not notified it, and that the TTD management should take the permission of ASI experts on issues like ‘Anantha Swarnamayam’ (total gold plating of the temple), the Temples Protection Movement has said that there was no alternative for TTD now than to implement the Court direction.
Speaking to the media here today, Dr M V Soundara Rajan, Convenor of the Movement, said that the Government has put forward the argument, in the High Court, that TTD would not come under the jurisdiction of ASI as it was not notified by the ASI; but the Court has not accepted the argument. He said that he himself had joined the case as a petitioner, and the ASI also filed an affidavit. After the High Court has made it clear, there was no other alternative for the TTD than to follow it.
He said that the Centre has brought about an amendment to the Ancient monuments Act in 2010 and the amended Act was notified and is in force now.
Dr Govinda Rajan said that during the past three days, the TTD authorities were coming out with many contentions stating that due to ASI supervision, ‘darshan’ of the Lord would come to a halt, that the festivals (utsavaalu) will be stopped and the sanctity of TTD would come down. He said that all these were mere apprehensions only. He said that in the present situation, the media has to play a great role in placing before the people the contents of the High Court judgment and educate them on proper lines. He said that while the TTD management was going ahead with the ‘Anantha Swarnamayam’ programme in spite of stiff opposition from the people and experts in ancient monuments, the High Court has stopped it.
