Hyderabad: The city police on Saturday arrested two persons, a man and his wife, for the gruesome kidnap and murder of an 11-year-old boy on June 10.
The police said that the two accused, Rajni Ranjan Malik and his wife Shalini Malik, were arrested after it worked out clues and after sustained and persistent efforts solved the mystery of kidnap of the boy Pranav.
Pranav, the son of a scientist Ch V Ram Mohan, Dy Project Director in DRDO, Kanchanbagh, Hyderabad, was kidnapped on the afternoon of June 10, 2011 from Alapatinagar colony under the limits of Asifnagar Police Station.
The boy, a student of All Saints School, had gone missing while he was playing in front of his house. After searching in the neighborhood, the child’s father lodged complaint with the Asifnagar police.
Following the abduction, the child’s father received a call on his mobile phone from the kidnappers who informed that Pranav is in their custody and that they would call him again in the night.
Considering the gravity of the issue, the Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad instructed Task Force teams to assist West Zone police in the investigation. Having taken up the task, the Task Force sleuths of West Zone and North Zone Teams and local police investigated into all probable angles including the possible involvement of professional kidnapping gangs which operated in the past, the possible motives and the movements of the suspects at the scene of offence.
Having narrowed down on the possible involvement of some accused, a dragnet was also spread in the neighbouring States of Karnataka and Maharastra to track down the offenders.
While investigation was under progress, on June 13, 2011, Pranav was found dead at Mandulaguda Nala, Gudimalkapur, Asifnagar, Hyderabad.
After observing the scene and circumstances therein, it came to light that, some unknown persons smothered him to death two days earlier and concealed the body in a brown gunny bag and threw it in Mandulaguda Nala .
The efforts of all teams lead to identification of the accused persons as Rajni Ranjan Malik and Shalini Malik who shifted their residence from Guddi Malkapur to Achaiah Nagar, Bagh Lingampally after the commission of offence.
During the questioning, it came to light that both the accused are natives of Uttar Pradesh State. They fell in love and got married in the year 2009.
Later they migrated to Hyderabad in the month of December, 2010 and stayed put at Guddi Malkapur area.
Initially Rajni Ranjan worked as sales executive in Supreme Music Center, Koti, Hyderabad.
Due to financial crisis and as his wife Shalini was pregnant as they required money for expenses they hatched a plan out of greed and avarice to kidnap a boy and demand Rs 10 to Rs 15 lakh.
In the process the accused Rajni Ranjan Malik identified and lured the victim with sweet talk. He managed to secure the landline phone number on the pretext of getting a house on rent in the locality.
The day following the kidnap, Ranjan made a phone call to the victim’s house and waited some time there. At about 12.45 PM the accused noticed the victim coming out of the house.
Taking the advantage of his acquaintance with the boy , he lured the boy for playing cricket with him and took him to his house at Sainagar, Guddi Malkapur by walk with the help of his wife who was already waiting at Saibaba Temple, Guddi Malkapur.
As per their plan they mixed bhang in flavored milk which was already purchased by the accused Rajni Ranjan at Begumbazar on the same day morning, to the boy and made him unconscious.
Later in the evening Rajni Ranjan went to Koti area and made a call to the victim boy’s father. Later he returned to his house, in the mean time the regained consciousness and pressurised them to drop him at his house.
The victim slipped and fell down while going to attend nature call and again fell unconscious and sustained injury on back of his head.
The accused panicked and decided to eliminate him.
Both Rajni Ranjan and his wife Shalini killed the boy by smothering him.
Later the accused Rajni Ranjan bought one gunny bag from nearby shop and packed the body in it. After midnight the brought the gunny bag to a near by Nala in Mandulaguda, Guddi Malkapur and threw it in.
After the offence they immediately changed their residence from Guddi Malkapur to Bagh Lingampally . (INN)
