Hyderabad: In response to the call given by the Andhra Pradesh Federation of University Teachers Association, professors of all universities in the State participated in dharna programme on Saturday in protest against the State government’s apathy in resolving their pending issues.
The chairman of the University College of Engineering, Osmania University, Prof. B Satyanarayana, said that as per the revised UGC Pay Scales 2006, arrears should be paid to the teachers working in government degree colleges as well as university professors for the period between January 1, 2006 and December 31, 2009. Though the State government extended it to the government degree college lecturers, it has not taken any initiative to do the same in respect of university professors.
According to the UGC RSP 2006, the superannuation age for the university professors has been enhanced to 65 years, Prof. Satyanarayana said, adding that the State government has not implemented it so far.. He also noted that the government has not constituted executive councils to various universities in the State even one year after abolishment. (NSS)
