Hyderabad: The issue of MLC elections has created ruptures in the Praja Rajyam Party with some of its cadre were not in favour of the decision of the party president, Mr K. Chiranjeevi, to field Mr C Ramachandraiah as party candidate for the lone MLC seat which falls under the MLA quota, allotted to it by the Congress party.
Mr Chiranjeevi convened a meeting of the MLAs and leaders of the party to discuss the issue of MLC elections on Monday here.
It was learnt that the party leader, Ms Vasireddy Padma has revolted against the decision and wrote to the party president, Mr Chiranjeevi in this connection. She has even resigned from the party expressing her anguish that tickets were not given to those who genuinely worked for strengthening the party.
Referring to the party’s merger with the Congress party, Ms Padma said that she was deeply hurt by such a decision and added that her conscience would not permit her to work in tandem with the Congress party. On the other hand, rumors were abuzz that she might join the Y S Jagan faction.
Another prominent leader of the party, Ms Shobha Rani, was also opposing the candidacy of Mr Ramachandraiah for the MLC election. (NSS)
