Hyderabad: Enraged over the placards with “YSR Gang of Thieves” exhibited by the Telugu Desam party members in the Assembly on Monday, the Agriculture Minister, Mr Y S Vivekananda Reddy, virtually came to blows with the main Opposition members causing unruly scenes. However, the controversy was resolved with the Minister offering regrets on the incident.

Soon after the House met at 9 am, the TDP members exhibiting placards stood at their seats in the House demanding constitution of Joint Legislature Committee (JLC) on the alienation of lands to Special Economic Zones and against late chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.

Annoyed with the text on the placards against his late brother, Mr Y S Vivekananda Reddy rushed towards the TDP members and snatched placards they were displaying in the House. He tore the placards which were lying on the table of the TDP Deputy Floor leader, Mr Gaali Muddu Krishnama Naidu.

Sharply reacting, the Deputy Speaker, Mr Nadendla Manohar, adjourned the House for half-an-hour and left the Chair at 9.20 am.

The Agriculture Minister also snatched the placard of another TDP member, Mr C Prabhakar, by holding his shirt. At this juncture, the Congress MLAs of Jagan group rushed in support of the Minister worsening the situation. The BJP floor leader, Mr G Kishan Reddy and the MIM members, Mr Mouzam Khan and Mr Afsar Khan, intervened and made an effort to control the members, who were pushing each other. The Marshals went into action and controlled both sides of the MLAs. Heated arguments and exchange of hot words ensued between the members of two sides. Several times, Mr Vivekananda Reddy tried to rush towards the TDP members, who were raising slogans against late YSR. But, the ministers, Mr Vatti Vasanth Kumar and Mr Ahamadulla, stopped him and made efforts to cool him.

After an hour, the House met again at 4.30 pm. Expressing regret over his behavior in the House, Mr Vivekananda Reddy said that he and his brother YSR lived like Rama and Lakshmana of Ramayana. His condition now was like Lakshmana without Rama. He strove for 30 years to turn Pulivendula Assembly constituency into a stronghold of the Congress party.

“I got angry due to allegations of the TDP members against my brother YSR, who was equal to God to him. The TDP harassed YSR when he was alive. My brother had always received your allegations with a smile. He also ordered inquiry into the allegations leveled by the Opposition. The TDP has launched an agenda of targeting YSR. In your view, free power supply and Rajiv Arogyasree are useless programmes. My brother dreamt to wipe out tears from the eyes of the poor and turned it into a reality after coming to power in the State. My brother had no lust for money and intention to earn properties. I will not accept the slogans of the TDP members like “YSR Gang of Thieves”, he elaborated.
