Hyderabad: The senior Congress leader and former minister, Mr T Jeevan Reddy, on Tuesday asked the party legislators of the Telangana region to decide whether they want posts or separate Telangana State.
Speaking to mediapersons at Assembly media point, Mr Jeevan Reddy advised the Telangana leaders to stick to their decision on resignations if they were sincere and committed for separate State. He suggested to the ministers to submit their resignations to the Governor and abstain from official duties. He also asked the legislators to submit their resignations to the Speaker of the Assembly and keep off from the Assembly and the Secretariat until separate Telangana demand was conceded by the UPA government and the Congress high command.
The former minister opined that summary rejection of resignations of the legislators by the Speaker amounted to insulting democratic system and values. He also criticized the AICC State Congress affairs incharge, Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad, for saying that he did not know about rejection of resignations by the Speaker. “Does Mr Azad think that people are that innocent?”, he asked. Mr Reddy also said the ruling party will become a laughing stock among the people if the legislators’ resignations are rejected outright.
