Hyderabad: Lambasting the State government’s laxity in clearing the arrears of fee-reimbursement for the students belonging to the SC, ST, BC and EBC communities, the “Youth Democratic Front” State president, Mr Bhuvan Gangadhar, and the joint secretary, Mr Chinta Vishnuvardhan, resorted to a day-long hunger strike at Indira Park, here on Saturday.
Accusing the government of colluding with bigwigs and contractors, the YDF leaders have alleged that it was bestowing public money in crores of rupees but has forgotten about the future of poor students who totally depended on scholarships for their studies. They also said that on one hand the government was emptying its coffers to appease the influential leaders and contractors, on the other, it was talking of mortgaging the public assets to clear the arrears of fee-reimbursements. They demanded that the State government clear the arrears of fee-reimbursements immediately keeping in view the lives of many students from underprivileged sections.
They also requested the managements of private engineering and professional colleges to explore other alternatives instead of insisting on fee-reimbursement by the State government to ensure that the lives of many poor students were not in jeopardy. (NSS)
