Kadapa: The Backward Classes Welfare Minister, Mr Basavaraju Saraiah, has said that the former chief minister, Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, has earned a firm place in the hearts of the people. He said that the people would still vote for the official Congress and not the YSR Congress in the ensuing by-elections to the Kadapa Lok Sabha and Pulivendula Assembly constituencies.
The minister, who toured some of the interior villages of the district, told newsmen that in his interaction, villagers while affirming their love towards late YSR have told him they would vote only for the hand symbol of Indiramma. He said that they all know that it was the Indiramma’s Congress party that gave YSR an opportunity to serve them and he had only implemented the welfare schemes as enunciated in the party’s election manifesto, under the leadership of Ms Sonia Gandhi.
Mr Saraiah said that apart from late chief minister every one in the cabinet had worked towards implementing the election manifesto of the Congress party under the directions of Ms Gandhi. “We have all worked for the welfare of the people as cabinet members. All the welfare schemes were the schemes of the Congress party and they were implemented as per the directions of the party leadership,” he has added.
Mr Saraiah said that people knew that it was the Congress party which made YSR chief minister and gave him the opportunity to serve the people. Stating that Congress was a national party, he said that simply because some people left it, it was not proper to think that all the people would follow them. He said that people could have affection towards Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy as he was the son of the late leader. But they would still vote only for Congress and not the YSR Congress, he asserted. (NSS)
