Following the claim of a news channel that Team Anna the Lokpal Bill joint draft committee was offered allowances by the government, Supreme Court lawyer Prashant Bhushan said that “it was absolutely perfect” if two of his colleagues travelled by flight.
When asked that two of his colleagues Anna Hazare and Santosh Hegde travelled economy class, Mr Bhushan said: “It’s absolutely perfect. There is no illegality involved if the two members of the joint drafting committee availed of air travel.”
Mr Bhushan also questioned the credibility of the exposes as claimed by a news channel.
Meanwhile, a TV news channel on Monday claimed to have accessed the government offer of remuneration to team Anna for attending meetings to draft the Lokpal bill.
The channel claimed that the government offered to pay each non official members of the joint drafting committee `3,500 per sitting.
The government also offered to pay for airfare of team Anna to and from New Delhi, in Business class by any domestic airline.
However, the team Anna was quoted of having denied accepting any sitting fee from the government, but admitted that only airfare used by two members— Anna Hazare and Santosh Hegde — in the economy class against the offer of the business class. Asian Age
