The special CBI court hearing the 2G spectrum case on Tuesday rejected the bail applications of Shahid Usman Balwa, promoter of DB Realty, and his cousin Asif Balwa and Rajeev Agarwal, both directors of
Kusegaon Fruits and Vegetables Pvt Ltd, for alleged involvement in the scam.

CBI special judge O.P. Saini, after hearing their pleas in detail, ordered: “All three bail pleas are dismissed. The allegations against the accused are grave and there is supporting evidence on record against them.”

The court, taking note of the CBI’s apprehension that the accused, if released on bail, may influence witnesses, said: “Considering the magnitude of the crime, the nature and enormity of
the allegations, the character of evidence on record and the apprehension that witnesses may be influenced if the accused are released on bail, I have no hesitation in holding that the accused have failed to make out a case for bail. The bail applications are without merit and are dismissed.”

Asif Balwa moved the Delhi high court Tuesday seeking permission to carry an iPad with a digital version of the CBI chargesheet and to use a cooler inside the jail at his own expense. Justice S. Muralidhar issued notices to the CBI, the Delhi government and the Tihar authorities seeking their responses on Wednesday. Asian Age
