The BJP Parliamentary Party on Tuesday discussed the strategy for cornering the government and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the issues of price rise and corruption during the Monsoon Session of Parliament.
At the weekly meeting, senior BJP leaders emphasised that since the government is in the dock on corruption the opposition should not be lax in attacking it. The members have been asked to be present in both Houses in good numbers during the session, party sources said.
The leaked CAG report on financial irregularities in Commonwealth Games projects was discussed in the meeting. The document reportedly indicts Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of being in the know of developments but not taking action.
The decision to make IOA chairperson (Suresh Kalmadi) the head of the Organising Committee instead of the Sports Minister, as initially agreed, has also been mentioned in the document.
BJP will also hit out at Dr. Singh during the debate on corruption for his alleged complicity in the 2G scam. The opposition has charged that Dr. Singh was taken into confidence by then Telecom Minister A Raja through nine letters when the allocation process was on.
Dr. Singh was also apprised of the decision to go ahead with the first-come-first-serve policy instead of auction in 2G spectrum allocation, the BJP has alleged.
BJP members were also informed about the issues the opposition plans to raise during this session. The party has demanded debate on price rise and corruption under a rule that entails voting to further embarrass the government.
During the meeting, BJP MP V P Singh Badnor said India may be headed for an undue dominance by the media of the kind practised by News of the World head Rupert Murdoch. He referred to a news channel which had carried out the reported sting operation during the cash-for-vote scam but did not telecast it immediately. Hindu
