Corruption will be the focus of the two-day national executive of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Lucknow, where it will strategise on how to attack the Manmohan Singh Government.
The party expects the issue to find resonance with yoga guru Baba Ramdev set to undertake a fast-unto-death from Saturday to pressure the Government to meet his demands on repatriating black money stashed in foreign banks.
BJP is expected to come out with a hard-hitting resolution on corruption to take on the United Progressive Alliance Government , including its leadership, over its ‘omissions and commissions’ and ‘misuse of the Central Bureau of Investigation’ at the meeting beginning on Friday. Baba Ramdev’s stir has given ammunition to BJP, which had asked the government to reveal names of Indians who had parked money in tax havens.
Party President Nitin Gadkari has already written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking his intervention in addressing Baba Ramdev’s demands. The party has also demanded the resignation of Union Textile Minister Dayanidhi Maran over his role in allocation of 2G spectrum license to private players during his tenure as Telecom Minister from 2004-07. The corruption issue is expected to figure prominently in the president’s address at the national executive.
While castigating UPA , BJP is likely to resolve to take steps to ensure probity in its ‘backyard’. This was the essence of the meeting of party chief ministers in the Capital last month on good governance.
BJP would have to introspect on the frequent feuds within, with the national executive meeting being held close on the heels of a recent row over Sushma Swaraj’s statement hinting at the hand of Arun Jaitley and other party leaders in promoting the Reddy brothers in Karnataka.
However, corruption and internal security will be the predominant themes at the meeting. Gadkari will focus on security concerns in the light of the Karachi terror attack. Economic Times
