Social activist Anna Hazare has said Congress leaders had dubbed him as a mask of RSS . BJP to malign him and ensure that he would not get the kind of support he received on the Lokpal bill during his April 5 stir. In a three-page letter to Congress President Sonia Gandhi he said: “I request you to ensure that responsible leaders from your party should not resort to character assassination and mislead people on the Jan Lokpal Bill… If the Congress party has any concrete evidence (to prove the allegations ), please make it public.” Congress general secretaries Janardhan Dwivedi and Digvijay Singh had dubbed him as a “mask” of BJP and RSS.
“It is propaganda by some Congress leaders who do not want me to get the support that I managed to get on April 5 at Jantar Mantar .” Hazare, whose fast unto death had forced the government to set up a joint drafting panel along with civil society representatives , has threatened to go on another fast from August 16, if the Lokpal bill is not passed during the monsoon session of Parliament beginning next month. “If the responsible leaders in the party and government resort to spreading lies, it is not good for the future of the country. Many senior leaders in your party have said that I am a mask of BJP and RSS. In the 73 years of my life, I have never gone close to any party or front because there is corruption everywhere,” he said.
Hazare also pointed out that he had criticised the Gujarat government for corruption. “I had said that despite it being the state where Gandhi came from, there was corruption there. Had I been associated with BJP, I would not have talked about such things,” he said. However, Hazare had earlier upset Congress by praising Modi for ‘development’ in rural Gujarat . He had refrained from allowing politicians to share the dais with him at Jantar Mantar. Economic Times
