Cong sees a foreign hand, points at US

Raking up the theory that a “foreign hand” was behind Gandhian leader Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption agitation, the Congress Party on Wednesday asked the government to ponder over the US government statement advising India to “exercise appropriate democratic restraint” in dealing with peaceful protests in the country. It also asked the government to probe how a “lone” civil rights activist had drawn such considerable support.

Briefing the media, AICC spokesperson Rashid Alvi said: “In the history of 65 years of independent India, the US has never supported any movement in the country. For the first time the US said Anna Hazare’s movement should be allowed and there should be no obstruction to it. What was the need for the US to give such a statement?”
He added: “We need to take the statement of the US seriously.” Asian Age
