New Delhi, Feb 21 (IANS) The Congress Monday distanced itself from party MP Suresh Kalmadi’s suggestion for a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) probe into the organising of the Commonwealth Games (CWG), saying the party has nothing to do with it.
“Congress has absolutely no connection with clearly an individual opinion. It is his own personal view,” party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi told reporters here.
Kalmadi, who has been removed as CWG Organising Committee chairman, Sunday suggested a JPC probe into issues relating to the sporting event held last October.
Referring to the cases related to the Games, Singhvi said: “We do not believe in commenting on ongoing criminal proceedings. Where is the question of party commenting on ongoing proceedings.”
Answering queries, he said the Congress party does not constitute the organizing committee of the Games.
Kalmadi, who is Congress MP from Pune, has been questioned in connection with alleged irregularities in Games-related projects.
He had been removed as secretary of the Congress Parliamentary Party at the start of the winter session of Parliament.
Kalmadi had Sunday said he would resign as Member of Parliament if proof of him having gained even a single rupee surfaced. He also said that JPC into issues surrounding the “preparations, executions and conduct” of CWG will enable the entire truth to come out.
