Graft, price rise in PM’s I-Day address

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is expected to take the nation into confidence on the twin issues — corruption and inflation — in his address to the nation on Independence Day. This will be his eighth address from the ramparts of Red Fort.

He will be addressing to the nation at a time when social activist Anna Hazare has decided to sit on fast for a strong Lokpal Bill on from August 16.

The corruption and price rise issues have virtually hit the UPA government hard ever since it won the 2009 Lok Sabha elections. If the scams in 2G, CWG and Adarsh Housing society have exposed the nexus between politicians, corporate and bureaucracy, the price rise has been affecting purchasing power of aam admi.
Though a section of the managers in the government and the UPA is trying to create an impression that Mr Hazare and his civil society group are undermining the importance of the legislature, the core issue is how the ruling class and bureaucracy to check corruption. Asian Age
