The division bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Sanjiv Khanna on Wednesday reserved their order in the petition filed against the inclusion of Mr Anna Hazare in the drafting committee of the Jan Lokpal Bill.

The petition was filed by one Hemant Baburao Patil representing himself as president of the National Anti-corruption Public Power. The petition sought directions from the court to the government of India to remove Mr Hazare, the leading face of the anti-corruption movement, from the joint committee for drafting of the Lokpal Bill. Other members comprise of civil society activists and government representatives.

The petitioner sought the removal of Anna Hazare from the drafting committee on the ground that he has been found guilty of corrupt practices by a Commission of Inquiry constituted by the Bombay high court.

Additional solicitor-general A.S. Chandiok representing the Central government argued that it was the prerogative of the government to decide the members of the drafting committee of the Jan Lokpal Bill. Asian Age
