Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday described the India-Pakistan talks as the “heralding of a new spring” and welcomed the progress made in the dialogue process. India wanted the “friendliest” of relations with Pakistan. It also wanted the resolution of all issues with Pakistan, he noted.
During the call on Dr. Singh, Pakistan Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar conveyed messages of goodwill from President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani.
“On behalf of Prime Minister Gilani, Hina Rabbani Khar invited the Indian Prime Minister to visit Pakistan. Dr. Manmohan Singh accepted the invitation. Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to India Shahid Malik, and additional secretary Sajjad Kamran were also present at the meeting,” said a release issued by a spokesperson of Pakistan’s Foreign Office.
Ms. Khar recalled last year’s Thimphu meeting between the two Prime Ministers when they agreed that dialogue was the only way forward. Directions given by them led to the resumption of the full spectrum of dialogue process, she said. Hindu
