In politics, no dearth of honest people: Sharad Yadav

The Janata Dal(U) chief Sharad Yadav on Sunday said there was no dearth of honest people in politics. They have left homes for the larger issues — the political cause, he felt.

He was speaking at a function held to release a book Samajwad: Ek Adhyayan written by late Mahaveer Prasad Morarka, the father of former Union minister and industrialist Kamal Morarka.

While drawing attention to how a debate on corruption is going on at the national level, Mr Yadav said this has united the entire Opposition. Their call of the Bharat Bandh on July 5 was successful even before Anna Hazare and Baba Ramdev took up the issue. Now, 27people from the corporate sector and bureaucracy are behind the bars related to the corruption cases.

On politics and politicians, Mr Yadav said “Main daave ke saath kahata hun, rajneeti me immandar log hain” and, he named persons like Karpuri Thakur, Madhu, Madhu Limaye, Raj Narayan, Madhu Dandawate, Chandra Shekhar, Jyotirmoy Basu, Jyoti Basu and former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee. Taking a dig at Indian industrialists, he said they remain with the people in power but Mr Kamal Morarka has been an exception. He remained with Chandra Shekhar till his life.

While defining socialism, he said “Jis aadmi ko dard ho, usis se samajwad niklta hian.” Noted Hindi writer Dr Namwar Singh, journalist Ved Pratap Vaidik, Mr Arvind Mohan also spoke on this occassion. Asian Age
