New Delhi, Feb 24 (IANS) It was a minor slip, but opposition MPs weren’t about to let go of the opportunity when External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna Thursday uttered the word “Bombay” – instead of “Mumbai”.
“Bombay is the headquarters for Haj pilgrimage as per the act,” Krishna said in the Rajya Sabha when asked if the government was thinking of shifting the venue to Delhi.
Opposition MPs were quick to react: “It’s Mumbai, not Bombay.”
Bombay is after all the old name of the city, never mind if it continues to rule popular lingo. The city was renamed in 1995.
