The police said on Tuesday that the tour guide who accompanied crime journalist J Dey on his Europe visit will be interrogated in the next two days. “He is in London. We had called him. He will come within two days. We will then be able to get details from him,” Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Himanshu Roy told reporters.
J Dey was shot dead here on June 11.
Sources in the Crime Branch said that surprisingly there were no pictures of the entire Europe trip. “We did not find any pictures in his [J Dey’s] mailbox or on his cell phone,” a senior officer said.
The police have till now confronted Vinod Asrani alias Vinod Chembur with the other main accused of the case – Satish Kalya, Anil Waghmode and Arun Dake. It was Waghmode and Dake, who identified J Dey at the instance of Chembur.
Chembur was recently arrested as the eighth accused in the case.
“On June 7, Chembur reached the bar before J Dey and another journalist arrived. Chembur had apparently raised an apprehension to Chhota Rajan that the killers may mistake him to be J Dey. Rajan had then asked him to go to the bar in his white BMW. He did that and then showed J Dey to Anil and Arun, who were standing on the other side of the road,” a senior officer said.
The police said they were now consolidating evidence to make a water-tight case against the seven accused. Hindu
