Kani should not expect leniency: Jaya

In a marked difference from press conferences during her earlier tenures, chief minister J. Jayalalithaa, sporting a smile, had a freewheeling chat with reporters for almost an hour on Tuesday at the Secretariat.

Responding to queries on the 2G spectrum issue, Ms Jayalalithaa said the apex court action has restored
people’s faith in the judiciary.

“Finally, the law is taking its course. Action is being taken according to law. After a long time, people have regained faith in the judicial process… people’s faith in judiciary system has been restored,” Ms Jayalalithaa said.

But on Ms Kanimozhi’s plea for bail as she was a woman — as argued by her lawyer Ram Jethmalani in court — she said, “It is a wrong argument. In politics, you cannot expect any concession to be shown because you are a woman. Similarly, where criminal activities are concerned, one cannot expect any leniency to be shown because one is a woman.” Asian Age
