Slamming Uttar Pradesh’s ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) for the state’s deteriorating law and order situation, Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) general secretary Ravi Shankar Prasad Saturday accused Chief Minister Mayawati of failing to protect the women and downtrodden in her state.
“The biggest atrocity on women is happening in Uttar Pradesh that is headed by a woman chief minister. I am not saying it, the recent reports of the National Commission of Women and National SC/ST Commission indicate it,” Prasad told reporters here at a press conference.
“I want to ask whether the Mayawati government has even once been nominated by any non-government organisation for good governance or for steps meant for development of the state,” he said.
“In several BJP-ruled states, the chief ministers have been felicitated for their work. But, the BSP has failed to maintain law and order in the state and check corruption…these are the only achievements made by the Mayawati government that can be taken into account if any prize is instituted for poor governance,” he said.
Accusing the Congress, the BSP and the Samajwadi Party (SP) of working together, Prasad said the three parties merely project a stance of opposing one another.
“Depending upon the requirements for vested interests, the three parties function…BSP and SP are, in fact, pillars of Congress-led central government. In Uttar Pradesh, SP and BSP may project opposing the Congress, but when it comes to Delhi, both the parties support the Congress, considering the latter’s control over the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI),” he said.
Prasad also said that the BJP had no plans of supporting the BSP in the state elections of 2012.
“We have no intention to support BSP…We hope we would come to power in Uttar Pradesh,” said Prasad.
He also said that BJP national president Nitin Gadkari would lead the rallies against the Congress-led central government and the BSP government in various parts of Uttar Pradesh.
“He (Gadkari) will address Mahasangram rallies in Meerut, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Faizabad and Agra,” he said.
The Mahasangram rallies of the BJP will start April 9 from Meerut. The last rally would be held at Agra April 27. Agencies
