NDA vows to continue disrupting parliament

Kanpur, Feb 5 (IANS) The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Saturday said it will continue disrupting parliamentary proceedings until a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) probe is ordered into the 2G spectrum scam.

Addressing a rally here, former BJP president Raj Nath Singh said: “The NDA has resolved to continue its protest against corruption by disallowing the parliament to function until our long pending demand for setting up a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) is met.”

Flaying the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government, Singh said that “both Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati and Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav are as much responsible for the rampant corruption and price rise in the country because they have extended tacit support to the UPA government from time to time.”

Top leaders, including BJP senior leader L.K Advani and NDA convenor and Janata Dal-United leader Sharad Yadav did not attend the rally as the private plane they were travelling in could not land here because of poor visibility.

The plane was diverted to Lucknow where they addressed a press conference at the airport.

The two leaders expressed sentiments similar to what Singh said in Kanpur while attacking the UPA government.

Yadav also demanded the “recovery of India’s black money that is stashed in foreign banks”.

Kanpur weather officials, however, said that the visibility remained “fairly good” throughout the day.

“Except for early morning when the visibility was not good enough, it improved considerably as the day advanced,” said an official.

In the absence of Yadav, the rally in Kanpur remained more of a BJP affair.

Apart from Raj Nath Singh, the only other national level BJP leader to address the rally of over 10,000 supporters was Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, former union minister.
