Hyderabad: The police on Sunday took senior Bharatiya Janata Party leaders into custody after they staged a Rasta Roko on the busy road in front of the Ambedkar statue at Tank Bund to protest against the arrest of Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev late on Saturday night in New Delhi.
Speaking to media persons afterwards, BJP state unit president G Kishen Reddy condemned the arrest of the Yoga Guru and demanded that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh resign owning moral responsibility immediately. He also termed the Baba’s arrest as illegal, immoral and undemocratic.
Describing the incident in the Ramlila Grounds in New Delhi as a blot on democracy, Mr Kishen Reddy said that nothing short of the Prime Minister’s resignation would satisfy the concerned citizens who were in anguish at the Centre’s dictatorial and draconian display of power.
“How can protesting against rampant corruption in the country be illegal?” questioned Mr Kishen Reddy. He also condemned the indiscriminate lathi-charge on women who were present at the Baba’s dharna site.
The BJP leader further added that the events of Saturday would bring about a change in the people who would vote the UPA government out of power.
Mr Kishen Reddy further alleged that the Congress government, while on one hand was claiming that it was sincere in eradicating corruption, was on the other hand acting against peaceful protestors.
He also accused the Centre of making suitable noises while not doing anything about the hordes of illegal assets stashed abroad.
Demanding immediate and effect steps to cleanse the corruption-hit society, Mr Kishen Reddy warned that the BJP would take the fight against black money to the streets.
Earlier, senior leader M Venkaiah Naidu condemned the events of Saturday night and described the temporary ban on Baba Ramdev’s entry into New Delhi as draconian.
He said that the Centre may have imposed a ban on the Baba, but the people of the country would ban the Congress-led UPA government.(INN)
