Bhopal, Feb 26 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh Police have arrested from Mumbai Hindu missionary Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur in connection with the murder of a prime suspect in the Samjhauta Express blast case, police confirmed Saturday.
“She was arrested yesterday (Friday) and on March 9 she would be presented before a Dewas court,” Inspector General of Police A.K. Soni told reporters.
Earlier, a first class magistrate of Dewas court had issued a warrant against Pragya Thakur in connection with the murder.
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh activist Sunil Joshi, who was allegedly involved in the India-Pakistan Samjhauta Express blasts near Palwal in Haryana, was shot dead in Dewas in Madhya Pradesh Dec 29, 2007.
Pragya Thakur is the prime accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case. She was undergoing treatment in JJ Hospital in Mumbai.
“The Madhya Pradesh police moved an application in the special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court in Mumbai,” Special Public Prosecutor Rohini Salian told reporters in Mumbai.
“After taking the court’s permission, they placed the Sadhvi under arrest in the Sunil Joshi murder case,” he added.
The Madhya Pradesh police went to the JJ Hospital Friday evening and arrested her formally.
Pragya, an alleged member of right-wing Hindu group Abhinav Bharat, has already moved the Supreme Court challenging her prosecution under the MCOCA in the Malegaon blast case.
