Railway Reservation system to be shut down for 7 hours on Nov 17

indian-trains-1A Disaster Recovery Drill will be conducted o­n the Railway Computerized Passenger Reservation System (PRS) for a period of seven hours ie., from 3 to 10 pm o­n November 17, 2013. During these hours, the main PRS Server at Chennai will be shut down. Hence, no PRS activity is possible for the trains originating from Stations o­n South Central, South Western and Southern Railway Zones.

A Railway press release said that the shut down will make many front line services such as advance reservation of tickets, current day booking, cancellation of tickets, refunds, E-ticketing o­n IRCTC web-site, reservation charting, enquiry services including enquiry o­n Phone No. 139 and Passenger Operated Enquiry Terminals (POET) etc., non functional during the above period.

However, cancellation / refund of PRS tickets purchased at counters (not e-tickets) will be done at manual counters at Stations. Additional manual booking / enquiry counters with reservation charts will be opened at major stations as per requirement during the shut down period. Passengers are advised to take note and plan their ticketing / enquiry activities accordingly . Inconvenience caused is regretted, the press note added.
