SC dismisses bail plea of Army Major

The Supreme Court has dismissed the bail petition of an Army Major, accused of killing his wife in officers’ staff quarters in Kolkata’s Thakur Pukur cantonment area three months ago.

Accused Major Krishankant Dwivedi had moved the Supreme Court after his anticipatory bail granted by sessions judge at Bishnupur, was cancelled by the Calcutta high court’s division bench, headed by Chief Justice Jainarayan Patil with strong remarks questioning the “arbitrary use of judicial discretion” by the trial court even before the investigation was set in motion. A bench dismissed Major Dwivedi’s petition for quashing the HC order “snubbing” his counsel for approaching the SC instead of the accused joining the probe. Asian Age
