While addressing a massive rally in Nilambazar in southern Assam,Congress president Sonia Gandhi lashed out at AGP-BJP coalition in Assam,”While the Congress always stood for development in Assam, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were able to do nothing for the state due to their wrong and lopsided policies.”

Gandhi is on a day-long visit to Assam to address three election rallies – Nilambazar, Bokajan and Khumtai in eastern Assam.

“During every election, we find the AGP and the BJP making tall promises and giving people false hope and dreams. Let me urge you all not to get carried away by their false promises,” Gandhi said.

The Congress president said Assam made rapid strides in development and bringing back peace during the last 10 years under the leadership of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.

“We are committed to the overall development and permanent peace in Assam,” Gandhi said.

Elections are due April 4 and 11 for the 126-member state legislature. Agencies
