Puttaparthi: The Sri Lanka President, Mr Mahindra Rajapakse, arrived here this morning and paid respects to the mortal remains of Sri Satya Sai Baba.
The Gujarat Chief Minister, Mr Narendra Modi, also arrived here this morning and paid homage to the mortal remains of Puttaparthi pontiff. The former Prime Minister, Mr Deve Gouda visited Prashanti Nilayam and paid respects to Baba’s mortal remains. Mr Gouda was accompanied by his son former chief minister of Karnataka, Mr Kumaraswamy. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Gouda said that Satya Sai Baba proved that he was second to none in serving the humanity in the entire world.
The Vishwa Hindu Parishad chief, Mr Ashok Singhal, who visited the body and paid rich tributes to Baba, declared that Hindu Dharma programmes would continue in the path shown by the Baba. Mr Praveen Kumar Togadia and several others also had a darshan of the Baba’s body. The yesteryears Telugu actor, Ms Jamuna Ramana Rao, also had last glimpse of the Baba.
PUTTAPARTHI TURNS SEA OF HUMANITY
Meanwhile, Puttaparthi has turned into a sea of humanity with lakhs of devotees from all over the world pouring into the town to have darshan of the Baba’s mortal remains. As only a few hours are left for Baba’s darshan, the devotees are forcibly inching towards Prashanthi Nilayam causing stampedes at Sri Venugopala Swamy temple and Satyamma Gudi. As a result, one woman devotees fainted at the Satyamma temple. The police personnel were trying their best to control the emotion-filled devotees.
The Seva Dal volunteers have taken up the Herculean task of supplying drinking water and food to the grief-stricken devotees. (NSS)
