New Delhi/Hyderabad, Feb.10 (NSS):: A former Minister, Mrs. Konda Surekha is likely to be suspended from the Congress for her vitriolic attack on the AICC President Mrs. Sonia Gandhi in a nine-page letter addressed to her on Wednesday.
The APCC President, Mr. D. Srinivas, who is now in New Delhi called on Mrs. Sonia Gandhi Thursday morning and discussed the political developments in the state, especially with regard to the ensuing by-elections to the Kadapa Lok Sabha and Pulivendula Assembly constituencies, expected to be held sometime during March or April. During the course of the discussions, the issue of Mrs. Surekha, who is a known loyalist of the former Kadapa MP, Mr. Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy seemed to have also figured, particularly about the tone and tenor of the letter addressed to the AICC President in which she had made a scathing attack on the leadership of Mrs. Sonia Gandhi.
Though Mr. Srinivas, while interacting with the media persons after his meeting with Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, said that the High Command was seized of the matter with regard to Mrs. Surekha and appropriate disciplinary action would be initiated at an appropriate time, it is reliably learnt that the axe is being got ready to sack the rebel Congress legislator shortly. Stage is also being set to take similar action against two or three other Jagan loyalists, it is reliably learnt.
The AICC Secretary and MLC, Mr. P. Sudhakar Reddy said that immediate action should be taken against Mrs. Surekha lest a wrong message would go to the party leaders and workers indulging in anti-party activities. The Government Whip, Mr. Kondru Murali indicated that necessary steps are now being taken to initiate disciplinary action against Mrs. Surekha. He felt that if the Congress legislator had any morals and ethics, she should resign from the Congress.
JAGAN LOYALISTS MEET SONIA
Meanwhile in a surprise development, two legislators belonging to the Jagan camp, Mr. Shilpa Mohan Reddy and Mr. Peddi Reddy Ramchandra Reddy, called on Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and reportedly informed her that they were not against the Congress, but were only peeved with the Chief Minister Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy.
During his interaction with the media, the APCC President disclosed that he had discussed with Mrs. Sonia Gandhi about the ensuing by-elections in Kadapa and Pulivendula. The High Command is determined to field strong nominees to give a fitting reply to the former Kadapa MP and his supporters. While the names of various candidates are being considered for the by-elections, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi was assured that the Congress would win both the seats comfortably. However, the AICC President advised that the State Congress should leave no stone unturned to ensure the victory of the party nominees, Mr. Srinivas disclosed.
Mr. Srinivas said that Mrs. Sonia Gandhi was also apprised of the successful manner in which the Rachabanda programme was being conducted despite some hurdles being faced in the Telangana region. In reply to a question, he said that the Union Home Ministry was seized of the matter concerning the Telangana issue. He had also conveyed his sincere thanks to the AICC President for extending his term in office. ((NSS)
