Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa expressed yesterday concern of Bahrain and the GCC countries over Iran’s interference in the kingdom’s internal affairs.
Speaking at the 21st meeting of the GCC-EU Ministerial Council in Abu Dhabi, he described it as a violation of all international conventions and the principle of good neighbourly relations.
He stressed the legitimacy of the Peninsula Shield Force deployed in Bahrain under GCC defence agreements.
He highlighted changes in the Arab world and said the reform and development process, launched by His Majesty King 10 years ago, is going on and will not stop despite challenges.
“Challenges will only enhance our resolve to continue the process to boost democracy and bring about more achievements,” he added.
Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs head Shaikh Abdulla bin Khalid Al Khalifa, meanwhile, praised the stance voiced by Al Azhar University president Dr Ahmed Al Tayeb who condemned Iran’s interference in the domestic affairs of Bahrain and other Arab countries.
Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa also lauded the university’s contributions which, he said, reflect its keenness to champion Muslim and Arab causes. Agencies
